At Centric Squared, our strength lies in delivering strong results for our clients, which all comes down to all the great work from our team. We operate as a global team of independent contractors, each bringing their own expertise to the table to help turn our clients’ ideas into results.
We’re a remote-first agency, which means flexibility, autonomy, and trust are baked into how we work. And because we deeply value the people who make our work possible, we take recruitment seriously.
Whether you’re a creative, a project manager, a developer, or anything in between, this guide gives you a clear picture of what to expect when you join us, starting with the paid trial and beyond. From how we operate to what success looks like here, we’re laying it all out so you can hit the ground running and make the most of the opportunity.
How We Work
Centric Squared is powered by independent contractors and that’s by design. It’s a common structure in the digital marketing world, especially in areas like copywriting, design, and development. Why? Because it allows us to stay lean, work with top-tier talent from anywhere in the world, and scale based on client needs.
For you, that means more flexibility and ownership over your time. You’re not an employee, which means:
- You manage your own time and taxes.
- You’re free to work from wherever and however you work best.
- We don’t expect you to be “online” from 9–5 or sit in daily meetings.
In practice, this gives you more ownership and flexibility. We work mostly asynchronously, which means while there are occasional touchpoints (agency-wide and client-specific meetings), you won’t be chained to calls or Slack all day. For the most part, you decide how to structure your work in a way that makes sense for you.
That autonomy is a huge part of what makes working here so rewarding. Ultimately, we care about outcomes. And we’ll equip you with what you need to succeed.
What We Expect from Contractors
First impressions matter a lot here. We work with experienced and talented professionals and expect all our new recruits to “hit the ground running.”
But don’t worry you won’t be left to figure everything out alone. You’ll be onboarded with the tools, access, and account context you need to start confidently. It’s by no means a lengthy training program, but it is a thoughtful start.
We take a results-first approach because our clients, who are mostly small businesses, don’t have the bandwidth for long discovery phases or unnecessary red tape. Our goal is to have team members able to produce work that is as client-ready as possible. We’re very big on plug and play.
What does that look like in practice? If we’re working on something technical like list cleaning, we expect client facing summaries to be polished, thoughtful, and ready to be shared with the client.
We also care a lot about communication and professionalism.
That means:
- You meet deadlines.
- You communicate clearly.
- You own your work and ask for help early if something’s off track.
Our client relationships tend to last long because we’re strategic, great communicators, and proactive. And when we say “team,” we mean it—there’s always someone to support you.
How We Set You Up for Success
From day 1, we aim for clarity. Onboarding depends on the role, but overall isn’t lengthy and average 5 hours.
We understand that bringing someone new onto a project or client account is never as simple as handing over a creative brief. You’ll get a defined scope of work, key deadlines, and clear success metrics. You’ll never have to guess or chase down answers.
Our support system includes a dedicated Slack channel where you can drop questions, get feedback, or flag issues. We have a seamless async-friendly setup that promotes visibility of everyone’s work, which helps communication and makes it unlikely to get stuck.
One thing that makes this setup work is mutual respect. We’re not here to micromanage.
You’ll be working independently, but never alone. We check in when needed, offer feedback to improve outcomes, and welcome ideas to make our systems better. If you’re the kind of person who thrives on autonomy but appreciates clarity and collaboration, you’ll feel right at home here.
What to Expect from the Start
We believe in compensating all our recruits for their effort so contractors begin with a paid trial, typically 1–2 months depending on the role. This isn’t a test—it’s a two-way street. We’re figuring out whether this is a good fit, and so are you.
During the trial, we’re evaluating if communication flows, expectations are understood, if your work meets the success metrics, and if you can thrive in our asynchronous model.
You’re also evaluating us: Is the scope realistic? Is communication solid? Do you enjoy working within our systems and with the team?
Here’s what one of our recent hires, Ashleigh, had to say about her experience:
What made my own onboarding experience stand out was how transparent and welcoming the team was. From my first call with the Operations Lead, I understood what the trial would look like, what support I could expect, and where I’d be starting. I was paired with an amazing team, got everything I needed upfront, and always had a space to ask questions.
That’s the standard we aim to maintain with everyone who joins us.
Open Communication is Key
If anything feels unclear or off during your trial, let us know. We welcome questions and feedback, especially early on.
We want everyone who works with us to feel respected, supported, and empowered. That’s why mutual respect across the team is non-negotiable. No matter the role, your work matters. And clear, respectful communication helps us all stay on the same page as we grow.
