An interview with Amanda, Director of Client Services/Operations | Marketing Operations in Accounting, Legal Administration & System Administration

Tell us about what you do for Centric Squared.

Answer: Hmmm, I do a lot of different things for Centric Squared. As a member of a small agency, we all tend to wear a lot of hats, and I think that describes my role to a T. I handle a lot of the administrative and operational tasks of the agency, from bookkeeping to recruiting and interviewing, to sales outreach and client onboarding and services. Also, I do really whatever else is thrown my way that’s in my wheelhouse!

What’s something you’d love to share with others about working at Centric Squared?

Answer: First, it’s amazing how you can work as part of a global, remote team and really get to know everyone. I’ve worked in offices with people where I didn’t know them as well as I know most of my Centric Squared colleagues. Our founder and CEO, Sara Kappler, really does a great job at making everyone feel a part of this agency. You don’t feel like you’re a contractor just doing your one specific job, you really are a part of this agency, and a part of the future and growth opportunities that may lie ahead.  That is of course, if you want to be and you’re willing to do your part. Not every company leader is so mindful of this and giving back to their team. Sara is.

Can you describe the path that led you to Centric Squared?

Answer: I started out working in corporate settings for the first 20 years of my career. I held various positions from accounting to marketing operations before I decided I wanted more say over my time and the direction of my career, and started working as a consultant to small businesses. I then saw a job post calling for a “Jill of All Trades,” and I felt that I had a diverse enough background to qualify. Sara and I had a great conversation back in November 2019, and soon after I started some project-based work that grew into more regular work in 2020.  My past career experience set me up well for agency life.

What’s different about working as a freelancer vs. an agency setting for you?

Answer: In an agency setting, you get to work with a team of people working toward a common goal. Having access to a wide range of expertise and various perspectives is a great feeling.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned since joining the team?

Answer: I’ve learned that you can work with a team across the globe just as well as a team within the same four walls, as long as each team member communicates well. Communication is key!

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working at a digital marketing agency?

Answer: Be ready and willing to learn a lot. In digital marketing there is so much to learn and things are always changing, so an appetite to learn new things is key.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

Answer: I’m with my kids (well I’m with my kids a lot when I’m working too!), exercising and being active in general. When the weather is nice, we try to travel a bit and like to be outside (around New England). We love spending time with family, and we enjoy watching sports.

What’s one book on your bookshelf right now?

Answer: I’ve been reading Harry Potter with my daughter, and I started to read ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ on a recent trip (hopefully I’ll get to finish it soon).
