An interview with Angelica Padilla, Email Marketing Strategist | eCommerce, Digital Marketing

 

Tell us about what you do for Centric Squared.

Answer: I am an Email Marketing Strategist. I collaborate with our team to come up with email content ideas that are unique for each client. I work with our creative team on the campaign design concepts and creative review process. I also set up the emails in Klaviyo. I QA emails to ensure all links, copy and images look good before we hit send. I review email metrics to see what content is resonating with each client’s list, and I project manage as well so a little bit of everything.

 

What skills do you have for this role?

Answer: I have nearly two decades of experience in digital marketing, having worked for both large and small brands in my career. I have worked primarily in e-commerce and email marketing roles so I have a lot of knowledge and experience in this area, but I believe it’s important to always learn and grow in this industry. I have worked both on the client side and on the agency side so I understand both worlds pretty well. I love creating content that converts. I have worked as a consultant for many years now and I love it.

 

What’s something you’d love to share with others about email marketing?

Answer: While email marketing is largely focused on getting customers to convert, it’s also an important channel to build an ongoing relationship with your subscribers and educate them about the unique value proposition of your product or service.

 

Can you describe the path that led you to Centric Squared?

Answer: Because I am a working mom, I was looking for a company that had a positive company culture toward working moms and flexible hours so I intentionally looked for a job on Hiremymom.com. This company piqued my interest for both the role and team culture.

 

What’s different about working as a freelancer vs. an agency setting for you?

Answer: I feel like while our agency is smaller than many others out there, we have consistent work because of the quality of the work we do. Getting consistent work can sometimes be a challenge when you are a freelancer.

 

What’s a lesson you’ve learned since joining the team?

Answer: Being flexible and being open to change is one of the most important things when working in a digital agency like ours. By the very nature of this industry things are constantly changing and evolving so you have to have a flexible attitude and mindset. Also, be open to learn new things and technologies. Not only does it make you more marketable but it comes with the territory.

 

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in working at a digital marketing agency?

Answer: Stay up to date on email marketing best practices and if you are into networking, go to local industry conferences to learn what is the latest and greatest tips and trends in email marketing. You can also get creative and ask someone who has the type of job that you want out for a coffee date or Zoom call to ask them more about the role and what types of things you need to succeed. Just be mindful that these people are busy so keep your questions focused and always thank them for their time.

 

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

Answer: When I am not working I am usually hanging out with my family or taking a restorative yoga class. I like to go out in nature as much as I can and disconnect from technology every now and then.

 

What’s one book on your bookshelf right now? 

Answer: Oh my, there are so many. I am a total book nerd. While I like fiction, I tend to have a lot of what people would call inspirational books. One that I own that I often recommend to many people is “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. It’s a small book, but very impactful.
