An interview with Fernando Ledesma, Graphic Designer | eCommerce

What kind of skillset do you have in your role at Centric Squared?

Answer: As a graphic designer, I have creative abilities that include strong conceptualization and visual storytelling, allowing me to convey messages through visuals. I’m able to accomplish these visuals by knowing how to use common design softwares like Adobe, Figma, and Canva.

What’s something you’d love to share with others about testing your designs?

Answer: Design testing is essential for ensuring that a project is efficient and user-friendly by detecting and fixing problems. By enabling designers to test their ideas and design decisions, it lowers the possibility of expensive mistakes being made in the late stages of a project.

Can you describe the path that led you to Centric Squared?

Answer: I first discovered Centric Squared on Behance, a creative platform where I regularly share my ongoing projects and explore job opportunities. While scrolling through their listings one day, I came across a business seeking a graphic designer located in my neighborhood (at the time). I decided to connect with the agency via Instagram, sharing my portfolio. It seems they were impressed with my work (or so I’d like to think), as they offered me a spot on their team.

What’s different about working as a freelancer vs. an agency setting for you?

Answer: As a freelancer at Centric Squared, I benefit from a great support system. It’s rewarding to see the influence I have on our projects, knowing that my contributions are always recognized and valued.

What’s a lesson you’ve learned since joining the team?

Answer: One valuable lesson I learned during my time at Centric Squared is the importance of effective communication. The team members excel in this, and their skill in communication greatly contributes to the smooth progression of projects and early detection of potential flaws.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in becoming a graphic designer?

Answer: The design industry is always changing. You have to keep evolving with it. Embrace new technologies and design trends.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

Answer:  Apart from spending quality time with my family, I’ve been actively working on expanding my expertise in XR design. I’ve started designing and developing AR filters for platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, and deepening my proficiency in 3D softwares. When I’m not in the world of design, you’ll likely find me out in nature, engaging in activities like mountain biking, kayaking, and trail running. Given my Pacific Northwest roots, it’s hard not to be outdoors.

What’s one book on your bookshelf right now?

Answer: I’m currently reading “The Art of Decision Making” by Joseph Bikart.
